Staying Safe During Dangerous Situations
With all the madness that's been going on in the US and the world, something we should all know how to do is stay safe and protect ourselves. While we cannot always be successful in these attempts, at least knowing could make a huge difference. A professor who has seen action during emergency situations and honestly cares about the well being of those in danger brought FEMA to a few of his classes. A course he encouraged us all to take was how to deal with an active shooter. Simple steps include evacuating, hiding and taking action. Taking the course and becoming familiarized would go more in depth (https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-907) Everyone is going to have their own methods but with this at least you have something to think back o and be able to stay that much more calm during a situation.

This is a good post Katie. I think it's great that our professor gives us bonus for having done the FEMA active shooter course. Unfortunately, we all need to know what to do in this kind of emergency. Whether we are teachers in a school, or just walking around a shopping mall, we have to understand what to do. This is a real risk and unfortunately not many people know what to do. Thanks for posting this.
