Picking The Right Equipment

As far as equipment goes exercise, hobbies, work or general play; you always want to make sure you have the right kind. This applies especially if you are serious or passionate about what you are doing. Picking the right equipment doesn't automatically mean you're going to pay a fortune. As long as you know what you need you can do the shopping yourself and not let those sales persons take advantage of you. A piece of equipment I try not to skimp on is sneakers. If you buy the right shoe for your activity and foot they will last you. Another piece I hope to start to not skimp on are bicycles. It is a new found hobby of mine that I absolutely love. I bought a used cheap bike off the streets and it has gotten me through some treks and many days back and to school. It has cost me more in maintenance than its worth so I hope to purchase a better quality that will last me years to come! A few sites that might help you with these purchases are:

Semester Stress

As the semester winds down, the workload winds up... ready to throw a 99 mph fastball right at your face. This is when studying becomes crucial. The not so secret to balancing may sound easier said than done to most, but it's possible. You can't expect to pass that exam if you don't study. Your heart isn't going to whisper how it's contracting during the exam. You have to sit down and make time to study and understand it. Complaining how hard it is and whining isn't going to help you at all... and it's not making the rest of class any happier listening to you cry about it. So don't procrastinate and manage your time better than you ever have before. This may cause stress but you know what's great for stress? Exercise. Taking 30 minutes out of your day can be beneficial to cognitive and high stress levels.

Staying Safe During Dangerous Situations

With all the madness that's been going on in the US and the world, something we should all know how to do is stay safe and protect ourselves. While we cannot always be successful in these attempts, at least knowing could make a huge difference. A professor who has seen action during emergency situations and honestly cares about the well being of those in danger brought FEMA to a few of his classes. A course he encouraged us all to take was how to deal with an active shooter. Simple steps include evacuating, hiding and taking action. Taking the course and becoming familiarized would go more in depth (https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-907) Everyone is going to have their own methods but with this at least you have something to think back o and be able to stay that much more calm during a situation.

Staying Active in Cold Months

This is the first blog post I've ever done so here it goes. My first topic is going to be about.... staying active during our upcoming break. With the weather getting bad being active may become harder or less motivating to do. During these months it is still important to be active every day. Physical activity releases endorphins in your brain that help with your mood like reducing stress and warding off feelings of depression; which might happen when you're experiencing constant bad weather instead of sunshine. So stay active by going to the gym, swimming indoors, playing basketball at your local YMCA; or go outdoors and ski, snowboard, sled ride, have a snowball fight! Also make sure to take in extra vitamin D since you won't be getting it from being outside in the sun!
